"David was the big love of my life. And I believed that he loved me the same way, but obviously I was mistaken," Rossellini said in an interview with Die Zeit. "All my instincts told me we were a happy couple, but we weren't."
"I spoke (afterwards) with other women who had been through the same thing. And I took therapy. But the thing that helped me the most was time," the 57-year-old said.
Lynch and Rossellini, the daughter of Casablanca star Ingrid Bergman and Italian director Roberto Rossellini, became a couple after acting in his 1986 classic Blue Velvet. She was previously married to the director Martin Scorsese.
